Groede viewpoint - Observation point

The Groede viewpoint is located on top of the dunes near Groede, between Nieuwvliet-Bad and Breskens. It is a pleasant place to stop during a walk or cycle ride and enjoy the view over the beach, the sea and the dunes.

What can you expect at the Groede viewpoint?

• Stunning views over the coast: From the platform, you have a beautiful view over the Zeeland coast. On a clear day, the view even stretches towards Vlissingen.
• Special design: The viewpoint is covered with a striking, almost futuristic fabric roof. It was built as an attractive finishing touch to the coastal reinforcements in this area.
• Pleasant place to pause: There are benches and seating areas, making it a popular stop for cyclists and walkers. The cycle path runs right past it.
• Close to the beach and beach pavilion: The platform is located directly above the beach and close to a beach pavilion. Ideal for anyone who wants to combine the view with a drink, lunch or a beach walk.
• Poem by Jacob Cats: An old poem by Jacob Cats is written on the wooden planks of the platform, describing how land grows out of the sea:

  "Siet, aenwas is een dingh, dat sonder ons gevoelen
  Komt stijgen uijt de see en aen den oever spoelen.
  Al schijnt het eerst maer sant en niet dan enckel blick,
  Het neemt gedurigh toe. en wert ten lesten slick,
  En daerna wast er gras; een stel van hondert schapen,
  Die kander naderhant haer noodigh voetsel raepen,
  Totdat het op het lest verandert sijnen naem.
  En even mettertijt tot dijcken is bequaem."

A special viewpoint in the dunes

The Groede viewpoint is not a major attraction, but rather a peaceful and beautifully designed spot where you may find yourself lingering for a while. During the day, you can enjoy the sea, dunes and passing ships, while in the evening you can see the flashing lights of the offshore wind farm out at sea.

• Accessibility: The cycle path runs right past the platform, making it easy to reach during a cycling or walking trip along the coast.
